a movie that gives me strength

Mar 5, 2026

A few years back I watched a movie based on a true story called A Hidden Life.

At that time, I never thought this movie would have any lasting impact on me.

But with time I realized something interesting — the character from that story stayed somewhere inside me.

Whenever I face situations where a person, family, or society challenges my morality or my conscience — something I believe is true — a small question appears in my mind.

Should I back down?

And at that moment, the image of a farmer comes to mind.

Franz Jägerstätter.

Franz was not someone looking for conflict.

He loved his family.

He loved his village.

He enjoyed the quiet rhythm of farming, neighbors, and simple life.

Happiness for him was not something big — just living honestly, loving the people around him, and doing the right thing.

And maybe that is why his decision became so powerful.

Quiet countryside

The film tells the true story of Franz Jägerstätter, an Austrian farmer during World War II.

When Austria becomes part of Nazi Germany, Franz is asked to swear loyalty to Adolf Hitler and join the military.

But Franz refuses.

Not because he wants to be heroic.

But because his conscience tells him it would be wrong.

He knows the cost.

He knows what might happen.

Yet he does not step back from what he believes is right — even when it means facing execution.

Sometimes when I struggle with difficult choices

I remember that quiet courage of Franz.

a quiet strength appears in my heart.

And I remember to remain true to myself.
